Sassy, and streetwise Max works two jobs just to get by, one of which is waiting tables during the night shift at the retro-hip Williamsburg Diner, Brooklyn, New York City. Sophisticated Caroline is an uptown trust fund princess who’s having a run of bad luck that forces her to reluctantly give waitressing a shot. At first, Max sees Caroline as yet another in a long line of inept servers she must cover for, but she’s surprised to find that Caroline has as much substance as she does style. When Caroline discovers Max’s knack for baking amazing cupcakes, she sees a lucrative future for them, but they first need to raise the start-up money.

Maxine “Max” Black
Max is a girl after my own heart! She goes to the flea market and the thrift stores. And she goes through every single rack to find the pieces that really work for her. Those are her things, and she holds onto them forever. (…) Max is who she is. She couldn’t ever afford to go to pricey stores, but she wants to look good. So she makes the most out of stores like Salvation Army. (…) Max is in credit card debt, so she does have a good pair of jeans, because every girl needs a good pair of jeans. So she bought herself a pair of J Brands and those fit her really well. But then she has leggings from American Apparel for only $20. All of her boots are vintage and $50 and under. I shop at a store called Luxe De Ville in Echo Park. Then there is another store called Taxi CDC that re-cuts vintage shirts into a more modern fit, and they’re only about $15. That’s a place she would shop, so I try to keep it real.
