Kat joins Threads

Threads, Meta’s answer to Twitter, has officially launched in the USA and a hundred other countries. Immediately connected to Instagram, it offers short text messages which can be liked and replied to, all in its separate space. Miss Dennings has already activated her account, which you can visit here.

Her debut message is currently counting 1.3k likes and 89 replies at the time of writing this article. Check your Play Store or App Store for availability so you can engage with our very own “brown recluse”.

Dollface to be removed from Disney+ and Hulu

According to Deadline and other entertainment-dedicated sources, Disney+ and Hulu are purging a comprehensive list of titles from their services on May 26, including our beloved Dollface, a particularly tough blow after its cancellation. Although the second season arrived in USA’s Hulu on February 11, 2022, its life in other countries, where it is part of Disney+/Star’s catalogue, has been much shorter. Contrary to this premiere by phases, the show will most likely be pulled on the same date at a global scale.

Watch the adventures of Miss Dennings as Jules Wiley before the show exits the aforementioned services.

Dollface: Season 2 premiering in Canada

According to the Disney+ Informer website, the second season of Dollface is premiering on Wednesday, February 15 in Canada. The season has yet to debut across several European and South American countries where the first season is part of the Star brand, with no prediction date. We recall the comedy starring Miss Dennings, Shay Mitchell, Brenda Song and Esther Povitsky was hastily cancelled by Hulu/Disney back in May 2022.

Darcy Lewis makes her comic debut and Kat’s reaction

Marvel’s Wanda Maximoff is finally getting her solo comic series with Scarlet Witch, to be released in January 4, 2023. Kat’s character, Darcy Lewis, a previously cinematic universe-only insert, now makes her official debut as a character in the comics. But this is Marvel, so the event is not as linear as that. In an interview with Polygon’s Oliver Sava, writer Steve Orlando commented on Darcy:

“This is the 616 version of this character, who brings the same type of perceptions to the book, but also fits right into what’s going on with Scarlet Witch, with the magic side of the Marvel Universe. Darcy’s there to lightly chide the absurdities we love of comic books, especially in a character like Thor. Wanda speaks casually about a life that is absurd and strange, and it’s normal for her. But if you look at her family tree and the things she does, it can seem quite esoteric. Darcy essentially gives a voice to the audience in the same way that Kat Dennings’ character does.”

Steve Orlando for Polygon, article published on November 15, 2022.

The full interview with Polygon can be read here.

Yesterday on her Instagram, Kat reacted to this news by sharing images of her character as portrayed in the comics with visible excitement, as a long-time fan of Marvel. In a post where Darcy can be seen holding a mug of what’s presumably coffee, she summarised her thoughts with the caption “There is almost nothing more exciting in the world than finding out you’re in a comic book”. Equal to none, Kat additionally quipped about her printed likeness’s prominent cleavage.

Kat Dennings terminates her Twitter

Kat Dennings no longer has a Twitter account. Since yesterday, accessing the officialkat handle returns an error. In response to Elon Musk’s first days as boss of the bird app, several celebrities have quit Twitter, giving preference to other social media. The list includes Whoopi Goldberg, Gigi Hadid and Stephen Fry. And now, our very own Kat. As for the reasons behind the departure, they all stem from Musk’s decisions to change the verification process into a paid model which might confuse audiences more than help them, to send many employees home at a global scale; as well as from worries as to where the mogul’s interpretation of free speech might conflate with hate speech, far-right and antisemitic groups not being unknown to the platform. Exactly which condition, if indeed singular, prompted Kat to follow Fry et al., we don’t know.

On her Instagram stories (at katdenningsss), Kat poked fun at the situation with a thumbs-down caught in an old Conan appearance and an amusing template for thoughts.

As for denningsdiaries, our website’s handle on the same platform, it remains open to peruse; the future of it is unknown, along with that of so many other fan accounts which, in spite of clear messages of being so at an unofficial capacity, not intending to deceit viewers by tricking them into thinking the profiles represent official/personal accounts, may find themselves terminated under false claims of impersonation. We will not, and indeed cannot afford to, pay for a membership, even if it means staying afloat. With Kat’s departure from the network, such a prospect makes even less sense. If the account becomes inactive without warning, let it be known it was terminated by Twitter and not ourselves. In the meantime, we will consider whether we follow Kat’s steps.

Dollface gets cancelled

Sad news, I’m afraid. In a new scoop by TVLine, Hulu has cancelled the show after two seasons, the reason for this decision being, at this moment, unknown to the public. As of now, Dollface has not even been made widely available through Disney+/Star in many countries and thus we can’t help but find this decision hasty.

Here’s to hoping it won’t take long until we hear of new projects for Kat.
