Happy WandaVision day!
Celebrations Originals Projects WandaVision

It was exactly one year ago that WandaVision made its debut on Disney+. We would have to wait a few weeks to see Darcy – excuse us, doctor Lewis – again, but the show’s premiere made for a sensational event, nevertheless. On this day, we invite you to give the show a re-watch (or watch for the first time, we’re not judging) and celebrate with the WandaVision content currently available on our website.

In our gallery you will find all sorts of images pertaining to the series, as well as screencaps of Miss Dennings in the several appearances she made while promoting WandaVision. These you can watch by accessing our video vault, along with officially released videos. And, naturally, you can go back in time and read our posts from last year, where we shared videos, interviews and all fun things about Darcy and Kat.

You don’t have to be an astrophysicist to bask in the hype.

WandaVision star Kat Dennings shares hilariously relatable wardrobe malfunction behind the scenes as Marvel series marks one-year anniversary
Instagram Press Articles Projects WandaVision

Exactly one year since the launch of Marvel series WandaVision on Disney Plus, Kat Dennings has revealed the wardrobe malfunction she experienced on set – and we couldn’t relate more.

WandaVision marked the first MCU TV show to be launched on the streaming platform, seeing Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprise their roles from the films as Wanda Maximoff and Vision as they enjoyed a seemingly perfect suburban life in what turned out to be a fictional reality.

Kat also returned as Darcy Lewis, a character she first played in the first Thor film released in 2011, as the astrophysicist tried to figure out how the Hex surrounding Westview came into being.

At one point, the Hex created by Wanda, aka the Scarlet Witch, was expanded, engulfing Darcy and several other characters and transforming her into an escape artist at the circus.

In a photo shared on Instagram, Kat paid homage to WandaVision’s first anniversary while revealing the accidental tear she suffered in her outfit the first time she donned her circus ensemble.

‘It’s the 1 year anniversary of @wandavision so here is me breaking my spanx on my first day in the circus outfit,’ she wrote, alongside a mirror selfie of herself showing her reflection, complete with the spanx break in question.

Teyonah Parris, who played Monica Rambeau on the show, commented underneath, remarking that the ‘struggle was real’.

‘The struuuuugle is REAL!!! You FLY doh, frand!! Happy Anniversary to us!!’ she wrote.

Model Tess Holliday left a cheeky comment – literally – writing: ‘Cheeked out.’

‘The #SpanxBreaker,’ comedian Rob Delaney wrote, while Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey added: ‘Breaking the internet more like it!! Gurrrl you know what that picture is gonna do to people!!! #oopsbrokemyspanx.’

Teyonah also celebrated the anniversary on Instagram, sharing a video of herself dancing in her dressing room to funky music as she prepared for her first day on set, decked out in her 1970s-inspired outfit.

Project updates round-up
Dollface Originals Projects WandaVision

The Hollywood Critics Association TV Awards, which took place last Sunday, scored WandaVision two awards: the show won in the “Best Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Live Action TV Movie” category and, while Kat did not win the “Best Supporting Actress for a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Live Action TV Movie” award for which she was nominated, we are pleased to see it in the very good hands of co-star Kathryn Hahn.

Dollface has seemingly wrapped filming, as Kat posted a selfie to her Instagram captioned “she’s retired”. Last week, KABCRadio’s Gurvey’s Law show chatted with actress Fran Drescher, thus teasing her participation in the second season of Hulu’s show. Kat had previously expressed her wish of bringing Drescher to the show for the role of Jules’s mother. Unfortunately, the episode is not available online.

Finally, as for the upcoming The Sandman, Audible has released the official trailer for the second act, featuring the voice talent of James McAvoy as Morpheus, to premiere next month. Pre-order is available.

WandaVision & Dollface news
Dollface Originals Projects WandaVision

WandaVision earns a whopping 23 nominations for the Television Academy Emmy awards, including ‘Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series’, ‘Outstanding Lead Actor In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie’ (Paul Bettany) and ‘Outstanding Lead Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie’ (Elizabeth Olsen) along with technical categories. Our heartfelt congratulations to the entire WandaVision team. The show’s success would not be possible without all intervening parts, including our Kat who, in spite of not getting a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie, deserves praise for her work on the show.

As for Dollface, Lilly Singh is reported to join Kat, Brenda Song, Shay Mitchell and Esther Povitsky for season two, which is currently under production. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Singh will play Liv, a queer bar owner with a confident sense of humor, who explores both a relationship and a business venture with Stella (Shay Mitchell).” The season is reported to premiere in early 2022.

WandaVision Originally Included Darcy Flashbacks
Press Articles Projects WandaVision

WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer reveals early drafts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series included flashbacks of what Darcy’s been up to.

WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer reveals early drafts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series included flashbacks of what Darcy Lewis has been up to in the time leading up to the series. Kat Dennings’ fan-favorite character was introduced to the MCU with the first Thor film but her only subsequent appearance was in its 2013 sequel before finally returning in WandaVision. Initially just a friend and intern to the God of Thunder’s astrophysicist love interest Jane Foster, the Disney+ series saw Darcy having finally received her doctorate in astrophysics.

Set shortly after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the show centered on its titular characters as they live an idyllic life in a suburban area magically changing to the tune of different sitcom eras. Though it becomes clear Wanda has some form of control over this bizarre reality, she and Vision begin to suspect a darker force is driving her and the crumbling nature of the world around them. Composed of nine episodes, the series acts as a catalyst for the events of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While discussing the history of the Disney+ series with Rolling Stone, Schaeffer revealed that the early stages of development on WandaVision explored Dennings’ fan-favorite astrophysicist in the timeline leading up to the story. Despite enjoying what she and the writers’ room came up with for Darcy, the group elected to excise the material for pacing and tonal reasons. Read what Schaeffer revealed below:

“In earlier drafts, there was more of Darcy before she gets to the hex. And as the project coalesced it made more sense to keep everything base-centric, except for S.W.O.R.D. headquarters. So we lost some of that other stuff. But it was really fun to write for Kat and to see a little bit more [of] what’s been going on with Darcy. We had this idea that Darcy didn’t blip, but her grandmother did. And now her grandmother’s back and Darcy had pawned her old TV, so she has to go get the TV back. And when she plugs it in, Episode One pops up, and that’s how the broadcast is discovered. It was silly, it was too much of a detour. But that writing infused all the later writing for Darcy. We also jumped all over the opportunity to have her be a Ph.D. now. That was just delightful to write.”

Given she was absent from the franchise for the better part of a decade, the initial news of Darcy’s return to the fold for WandaVision was an exciting tidbit. These feelings were propelled higher when viewers got to see the quick-witted character flaunt her newly-earned doctorate and put the cynical S.W.O.R.D. higher-ups to shame. While an exploration of her backstory could’ve better balanced the real-world story with the faux reality of Wanda and Vision, the more straightforward nature of her introduction for the show proved plenty enjoyable.

With her time in WandaVision coming to an end as she flees from the authorities after helping stop S.W.O.R.D. director Tyler Hayward, it’s currently unclear if and when fans can expect to see Dennings’ Darcy return to the MCU. Though with Jane coming back for Thor: Love and Thunder, she just may turn up again sooner rather than later — unless Marvel chooses to give fans the Darcy and Jimmy Woo X Files-type spinoff they truly desire.

The Real Reason We Didn’t See This WandaVision Trio Together More On Screen
Projects WandaVision

WandaVision is functionally two stories being told in parallel with each other: Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) in Westview, and Jimmy (Randall Park), Monica (Teyonah Parris), and Darcy (Kat Dennings) outside the Hex. We didn’t get as much time with the latter trio, which is understandable because we were already several episodes deep into the all-too-brief series when they made their first appearances. Even so, it’s hard not to wonder what they were doing all that time between the action beats. Yoga? Donut breaks? playing Cyberpunk 2077? Shockingly, it’s none of the above. The trio was actually quite busy behind the scenes, we just didn’t get to see it.

On a similar topic, director Matt Shakman revealed on Kevin Smith’s podcast Fatman Beyond that several scenes were cut from the final episode. These cut scenes include a shot-but-never-rendered Goonies-style romp through Agatha’s (Kathryn Hahn) basement, and some alternate Monica scenes. Looper spoke with several of the creatives involved with WandaVision, including Shakman and showrunner Jac Schaeffer, and we asked what else was hard to cut. In our discussions, we got an answer as to why we didn’t see more of Jimmy, Monica, and Darcy’s adventures: They were cut for time and storytelling efficiency.

When asked which scenes were hardest to cut, Schaeffer brought up those three, and explained why they were cut: “There were more scenes in the base, with Monica and Jimmy and Darcy, things that were on the page that we didn’t shoot, where there was more theorizing. And we ultimately determined that it was just too much treading water. And also, it was a little bit self-congratulatory, because it was a lot of them figuring out the mystery, which was a mystery that we as writers built. So, right correctly, that those things fell to the side. But I think I just loved the trio so much, that it would have been fun to shoot and include more of their ensemble.”

That’s not to say Shakman and Schaeffer aren’t still thinking of them, obviously. When asked what Jimmy, Monica, and Darcy are doing now, director Matt Shakman said, “Jimmy’s a hard worker. He’s catching bad guys, of course. Monica, we’ll have to wait and see Captain Marvel 2 what she’s up to … And Dr. Darcy Lewis, the top of her field, I’m sure she’s got a lot of people asking for her time and attention.”

Add us to that list.

IS THAT A GENUINE SMILE COMING OUT OF MY FACE?! IT IS THE SMILE OF SOMEONE WHO FINALLY HOODWINKED HER FAVORITE BEVERAGE INTO SPONSORING HER…IT’S SPINDRIFT SPARKLING WATER, BABY. Never in my life have I approached a brand ASKING to partner with them out of sheer adoration. As a passionate (yet not remotely professional) gardener, I’ve become obsessed with only allowing REAL FRUIT (not “natural flavor” – actual fruit) into my consumables. Once I realized that everything I was drinking was “flavored”, I went on the hunt. I discovered @drinkspindrift which is the FIRST sparkling water made with 100% ONLY REAL SQUEEZED FRUIT and I became an absolute psycho, slowly converting my friends and family to the Drifter lifestyle. I may be part Spindrift at this point, as it is actually the only water I drink. Anyway. More to come. #realfruittastesbetter#spindriftpartner
