Kat loves makeup. Her younger self loved to try everything and indulged in over-powdering her face with a chalky, white powder. Notwithstanding this faux pas, she would not change her experimental side. This beauty queen tends to prefer drugstore over high end because she has the habit of reserving the “fancy” items for “special occasions” and they eventually go bad.
Brands that send Kat PR boxes or have done so in the past include Rituel de Fille, La Mer, Glossier, Lisa Eldridge.

Vanity Fair Oscar Party 2015, makeup by Kindra Mann
“Kat’s look for the Vanity Fair party was totally inspired by the romantic feel of her stunning lace green dress,” says Mann. “Immediately we knew we wanted to do a bold crimson lip to play off Kat’s amazing porcelain skin, and really bring a romantic glam vibe to the look.
How did they do it? I started off by prepping Kat’s skin with a light oil-free moisturizer from 1) Murad. This helped to lightly hydrate the skin. I then primed the skin using 2) Tom Ford Illuminating Primer before using a Beauty Blender sponge to apply 3) Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation in #2. Under the eyes and where I preferred a bit more coverage, I used a tiny bit of 4) Kevin Aucoin The Skin Enhancer in #3. I then set the makeup with 5) Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder in #1 under the eyes, and Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Skin in #2 everywhere else. To really pop Kat’s amazing cheekbones and give the skin a beautiful warm glow, I used 6) Film Star Bronze & Glow by Charlotte Tilbury to the contour of the cheeks and then highlighted just above that.” To give off that flushed romantic feeling, I used a duo fiber brush and lightly to the apples of the cheeks applied 7) La Prairie Cellular Radiance Cream Blush in Peach Glow. I wanted to keep the eyes fairly light and open since the lips were the focal point. I started off by prepping the lid with 8) Tarte Clean Slate 360 Eyeshadow Primer. I then worked into the lid and crease 9) Chanel Illusion D’ Ombre Cream Eye Color in Initiation. Using a small detail brush, I buffed into the lash line the deep green color from the Tom Ford Eye Color Duo in Raw Jade. I topped the lashes with 9) Lancome Cils Booster XL before applying a few coats of Kevyn Aucoin The Essential Mascara and Ardell Individual Lashes in Medium just to the corners of the eyes. I shaped and tinted Kat’s amazing natural brows using 10) Tarte Amazonian Tinted Clay Brow Gel in Medium Brown. Lastly, the lip that inspired the look was created using 11) Charlotte Tilbury Night Crimson Lipstick and Chanel Vamp ipliner.”
People’s Choice Awards 2015, makeup by Lauren Andersen
Avon Global Celebrity Makeup Artist Lauren Andersen prepped Dennings for the red carpet, pairing her wine-colored pout with camel smokies. “The look we created tonight for Kat is all about modern romance,” she said. “It’s feminine and sexy and complements the black lace dress she’s wearing.” Here’s the scoop on her entire makeup look straight from the artist.
How did they do it? Andersen began by applying a mix of Chanel Perfection Lumiére Foundation with Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Aqua Foundation Illuminator all over Dennings’ face. Her cheeks received a flush of Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Rose Petale. Andersen blended all of the shades in Avon’s True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Mocha Latte to create the pretty camel-colored smokey eye. She opened up Dennings’ eyes with a stroke of Avon Mega Effects Liquid Eye Liner in black on the upper lash line. For even more drama, Andersen applied a strip of falsies before layering on two coats of Avon Big & Daring Volume Mascara in Blackest Black. She finished the look by giving Denning’s full pout a coat of Avon Ultra Color Lipstick in Cherry Jubilee.

Thor: The Dark World Hollywood premiere, November 2013
Get the look: 1. To get Kat’s hairstyle, start by applying a volumizing mousse to damp hair, and then blow dry using a barrel brush. Lift your hair at the roots and twist it around the brush as you dry.2. Create a side part and mist your hair with a heat protectant. Next, use a 1-inch curling iron to curl your hair. Clamp down and roll halfway up the length of your hair, making sure to curl hair away from your face. Hold for a few moments and then release.3. Mist your hair with a shine serum, then brush through your waves to loosen them and distribute the product evenly.4. Gather your hair at the base of your neck and secure with an elastic to form a ponytail. Twist your ponytail and then wrap it around the elastic to form a bun. Secure with bobby pins.5. Use your fingers to gently loosen sections of hair around your face to keep it from looking too polished.6. Finish with a medium-hold hairspray.

Kat’s hair fell on the responsibility of stylist Gregory Russell. On his beauty inspiration Gregory said, “We decided on a high-shine wave set to complement Kat’s gown tonight.”
Get the look: On damp hair, he applied R+Co Chiffon Styling Mousse through the roots and lengths of the hair. He then blew it out with a ceramic round brush and pin curled each section, securing with clips. He then curled each section with a 1 inch curling iron and again pin curled to cool.
After hair was cooled, starting at the nape, he softly brushed out each section with a Mason Pearson Popular Brush. Once brushed all the way through, he sprayed Serge Normant Dry Oil through the lengths and brushed again until his reached his desired shape.
Finally, he pinned the waves where he wanted them and set the style with R+Co Outer Space Flexible Hairspray.
amfAR LA Inspiration Gala, October 2014
Kat’s makeup fell on the responsibility of artist Beau Nelson. Sharing his beauty inspiration, Beau said “Kat really is a natural beauty, so I wanted to accentuate that. The inspiration for this look came from the beautiful colours in the skin from classical paintings. I wanted to heighten the beautiful skin colours I see naturally in Kat’s face and take them to a surreal level.””
Get the look: Her skin was kept matte using Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation on a flat brush. He used Cinema Secrets Concealer under the eyes and on any redness, and powdered the skin with La Mer Loose Powder. Bobbi Brown Blush in Pretty Coral gave a soft natural flush to the cheek and sculpted the cheekbone and jawline using Surratt Blush in Grisaille to contour.
Her eyelids are naturally a really pretty peachy-brown, so he mixed two shades of blush from NARS (Silvana and Gina) and washed them (using a soft domed shadow brush) over her eyelids, blending them to slightly above the crease of her eyes to give a heightened sense of colour.
On her lips he applied Tom Ford Lipstick in Casablanca, blotted it, and then dusted on a tiny bit of loose powder to make it matte.
Kat’s beauty idols
In 2015, Kat revealed to Byrdie magazine who her beauty idols are: Katharine Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Anjelica Huston — and even Eddie Vedder. With the help of hairstylist Gregory Russell and makeup artist (and personal friend) Rachel Goodwin, she then transformed into these references in an editorial through the lenses of Olivia Malone.
“Katharine Hepburn obviously was one of the earth’s most inspiring female movie stars. When I was a young girl, I watched a lot of her films and thought she was such a badass. She just has this attitude towards publicity and fame and things like that, and she just rebelled against all of it and really paved her own way in the industry with what she wore and how she looked, and I just respect that so much. And I like to wear pants, and she liked to wear pants, and I thought why not?”
“Anjelica Huston is another one of those amazing, classic beauties, classic actresses. And she’s one of the actresses that I idolized. I grew up watching the Addams Family movies and ended up going through a major young-girl goth thing, and she had probably 99% to do with that. We did a cool version of Anjelica when she was a hot babe in the ’70s, and I loved that. I kind of forgot that she was this gorgeous disco flower babe, so that was really fun too.”
“[Sophia Loren] She kind of epitomizes Old Hollywood babe glamour. She is just full-on feminine, an amazing actress, gorgeous face, and amazing body. I think, also, I am a formidable-shaped human body, so I really loved watching her films and feeling, you know, like I had somebody to dress toward, if that makes sense. Like I try to sort of get inspiration from her when I’m going to an event or something like that, just because I love her whole essence.”
